TOTY 2012

Congratulations to our 2011-2012 Teachers of the Year!

A graduate of Auburn, Mrs. Lynn Casey has worked at Callaway High School for 13 years, first as an English teacher and currently as our media specialist.  In addition to her regular duties, she is a co-sponsor of the Senior class and the sponsor of the National Honor Society.  Friendly and always willing to assist with providing resources and dealing with technology issues, her positive attitude gives the media center a welcoming atmosphere.

A graduate of UAB and an avid Auburn fan, Mrs. Deborah Thompson taught in Alabama for 25 years before coming to Callaway 6 years ago.  Her classroom assignments reflect high levels of creativity and expectation as she asks her students to make connections to literature. In addition to teaching rigorous Honors and AP Literature classes, she coordinates the CHS gifted program.

Governor's Honors Nominees

Four CHS students were recently recommended by their teachers and selected by a CHS committee to represent our school in the Governor's Honors state competition that will take place in January. If selected as finalists, these students will attend a four week intensive summer residential program at Valdosta State University. This program is designed to provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented high school students challenging and enriching educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year. Our nominees are (l-r) Minjeong Kim, (art), Kathryn Hume (social sciences), Yewon Cho (music-clarinet) & (not pictured) John Hetzel (biology).  Congratulations to our nominees!

November 17, 2011 is National Parent Involvement Day, and November is Parent Engagement Month in Georgia.  Schools all across the state are working to bring awareness to the role parents play in their children’s education. It is a time for all parents to consider how they can get more involved in the education of their children regardless of the grade level. State Superintendent of Education Dr. John Barge thanks all parents for their involvement in their child's education, and encourages all parents to be more involved. For more information about how you can become more invovled in engaged in your child's education, visit the Georgia Department of Education's website to learn more about its Parent Engagement Program

The Georgia Work Readiness Test that was to be administered to CHS seniors on November 17 & 18th has been cancelled due loss of funding for the program. When funding issues are resolved, testing will be rescheduled.
