ABOUT US

Callaway High School

In 1995, the Troup County School System announced plans to open a new high school. Under this plan Hogansville High School would be converted to Hogansville Elementary School, and the students from Hogansville High School, along with students from Troup and LaGrange High Schools, would attend Callaway High School. A committee of students, faculty, and administrators was formed and together they chose the Cavalier as the school’s mascot and the school’s colors of crimson, black, and white.

Callaway High School opened in the fall of 1996. Originally, the school was designed to house grades six through twelve, with Callaway High School occupying two wings of the school and Callaway Middle School occupying two wings of the school. The two schools shared the cafeteria, media center, and vocational wings of the building. Callaway Middle School moved to a new facility in 2001, leaving Callaway High School to occupy the entire building.

The first students to attend Callaway High School were a mix of students from the old Hogansville High School, LaGrange High School, and Troup High School. In 1996, the seniors and juniors were smaller classes made up mostly of students from Hogansville High School. The tenth grade class was the largest class and the first class to be subject to the new school zones in Troup County. The freshman class, which would graduate as the Class of 2000, was the first class to attend Callaway High School for all four years.

Since opening, Callaway High School has grown steadily. After spending four years as a Class A school, Callaway is a medium-sized school in Class AAA with an enrollment of between 700 and 800 students and 59 teachers. Callaway continues to grow and reach new heights of success both academically and athletically.
